1. You will respect every person in this class. This year, we will share personal stories and creative work.
As young adults, you are to be considerate toward your classmates’ feelings.
2. Speaking while another person is speaking will not be tolerated.
You will all have a chance to share your opinions and thoughts; wait your turn!
3. Upon entering, please place your cell phones in the numbered holder. They should be off or on silent.
Unless we are doing an activity in which we specify that you can use your phones, we shouldn't see them.
4. Every day you should start class by putting your agenda book, English notebook/binder, and your pen on your desk. We shouldn't have to ask you to take these items out. If we are working on a text (a novel/play/packet/poem/article), the text should be on your desk too.
5. After you have placed the items you need on your desk, you should do the following:
- Copy your HW into your agenda book immediately! You don't want to forget!
- Begin the Do Now
Attendance/ Make-Up Work:
- If you are absent from class, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to hand in any assignment that was due while you were absent. If you do not, you will lose points.
- If you are absent from class, check google classroom, your school email, ask a classmate, or (lastly) email us to see what you missed.
- If you are emailing us an assignment, please make sure to send it to BOTH Mr. Burke and Mrs. Stein. You never know which one of us is grading that particular assignment.
- Please arrive on time. We get started as soon as the bell rings. If you are late, you will miss important information.
Grading:
Your grade will be based out of total points earned. At the end of each quarter, your grade will be tallied by adding up all the points you earned and dividing them by the total points of all the assignments.
- Major Assessments (100-200 points) - These include final drafts, exams, long-term projects.
- Minor Assessments (10-75 points) - These include homework, early drafts, quizzes, short-term projects, seminar discussions, and independent reading responses.
**Late Assignments- If you do not hand an assignment in on time, you will lose credit for each day it is late.
- Participation - (15%) – This includes the following:
Academic Honesty:
- In short, all work that you hand in must be your own.
